It was my birthday. I knew I was having it on the boat around the rocks in Ha Long Bay. I was a little bummed because we didn't have really nice accommodation. I'm not trying to sound cocky, but when it's your birthday you want it to be special. 

We had been in Hoi An for a week before we decided to leave our hostel and go somewhere else in Hoi An for a month. I didn't want to leave because the hostel was pretty decent and I didn't want to risk Mom and Dad finding a worse accommodation than the one we were staying at now.

When we first arrived in Vietnam we were in Ho Chi Minh City. It was a fairly developed place and we stayed for a couple of weeks.
